A patinated bronze figure of the bodhisattva Kṣitigarbha, he is seated in lalitasana, dressed in a simple pleated robe, the left hand holds the wish fullfilling jewel/pearl and the right holds a now missing staff, he wears a crown and a chest necklace. Attached to wooden base. Presumably Korea, 18th century. H. excl. base 29.5 cm.

Provenance: Holger Rosenberg 1869–1960. In the period 1896–1939 he travelled extensively in the whole world collecting items from wherever he went. In one of his travels he walked through China by foot. Holger Rosenberg wrote several travelogues. In 1942 he became chairman of the Adventurers Club. The present figure has been in the family by descent.
