Russia, 17th century

A Russian icon depicting Christ Pantocrator from his shoulders upwards, against an ivory background, dressed in an ocher chiton with red lines and a dark coloured mantle, his hair falls asymmetrically in the back from a central parting, in parallel wavy lines. The facial features are painted in great details. Tempera on wood panel with kovcheg. 1700–1900. 31×26 cm.

Condition

Several peelings and crackles. Some retouches at the top of his hair, at the top of the halo and a few minor ones at the low end of the picture. Marks and scratches. Chips at edges. Possibly later painted.
