Povl Christensen (b. København 1909, d. Helsingør 1977)

Unique and large collection of several hundred illustrations incl. orig. etchings, aquatints, lithographs, woodcuts, ex-libris, drafts and proof copies and drawings (pencil and ink) by Povl Christensen. Included is more than 70 vols. of works illustrated by the artist, art books and catalogues. Enclosed 18 various pieces of graphics, all framed.

Povl Christensen was both a painter and a graphic artist, but it is particularly his work as a book illustrator, which he is remembered for today. As well as woodcuts, Povl Christensen worked with graphic techniques such as aquatint and engraving. He managed to illustrate almost a 100 literary works, among others, the classics of Danish literature, Saxo, Leonora Christina, Holberg, Kingo, Brorson, Blicher, H. C. Andersen, Heiberg, Kaj Munk and Tom Kristensen. This collection consists of several 100 original works representing all the various techniques that Christensen excelled in, as well as printed books and personal notes.
