Olafur Eliasson (b. Copenhagen 1967)

Five untitled photographs, from the “The Chinese Series”. Ed. 4/6. All signed Olafur Eliasson 1997 on verso. C-prints mounted on boards. Framed separately. 29×29 cm. (5)

The world famous Danish artist Olafur Eliasson uses photography as a way of studying the concepts explored in his installations. His now iconic landscape series, taken during annual hiking trips in Iceland since the early 1990s, are thus first steps in his important explorations of what it means to see and the elliptical relationship between reality, perception and representation which is discussed in his world-reknowned installations of light, landscape, weather and nature/culture as well as his photographs. “The Chinese Series” (1997) deal more broadly with Olafur Eliasson's recurring interest in people being immersed in nature, but here we are also introduced to the trope of seeing people seeing, something we experience more directly in Eliasson's installations."
