Unknown RAF-photographer: An original English b/w press photograph of Spitfire planes on their way to the continent in November 1941. Back with newspaper notice and publication date (November 25th 1941). Furthermore Associated Press stamp. Photo size 22.5×18 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.
A very beautiful photograph of the death in the skies and also a symbol of the indomitable spirit that brought Great Britain through the years 1939–1945. The first version of the Spitfire was created in 1936 by the engineer Reginald J. Mitchell, who at the time could hardly know that 22,000 copies would be built during the war years. The Spitfire - in the version which was named Supermarine Spitfire Mk - had its baptism of fire during the Battle of Britain, that is from July to October 1940. Within this crucial period of time the Spitfires fought side by side with the Hawker Hurricane jet planes against the German Messerscmitt Bf attackers.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1941. Front with sligtly yellowed edges. Back somewhat discoloured.
