Julius Caesar, dictator from 49 BC till his assassation in 44 BC, Denarius, struck in North Africa at a military mint, c. 46–45 BC, Cr. 458/1, Syd. 1013, C 12, 3.86 g - with a beautiful toning, a perfect centering, an excellent style and an unusually high relief the present example is undoubtably one of the best in private hands
The Julian clan claimed direct descent from Venus via the Trojan prince Aeneas, and the reverse on the present type depicting Aeneas carrying his father Anchises and the palladium, shows Caesar as an early master of propaganda.
