Harald Moltke (b. Helsingør 1871, d. Frederiksberg 1960)
Inuit women rowing in a umiak. Signed and dated Harald Moltke Grønland 1902. Drawing ink on paper mounted in passepartout. Visible size 21 × 29.5 cm.
Knud Rasmussen and Mylius-Erichsen, together with the artist Count Harald Moltke and the teacher Jørgen Brønlund, carried out “The Literary Greenland Expedition” in the years 1902–04. The expedition, which ran along the northwest coast of Greenland from Upernavik to Cape York near Thule, became demanding and difficult, not least because Moltke became ill along the way, and the literary work could therefore not be completed. The present drawing was executed during the expedition.
The sheet has turned slightly brown. Examined in the frame.
