Finn Juhl (b. Frederiksberg 1912, d. Ordrup 1989)

“FJ 45”. A pair of easy chairs of Brazilian rosewood. Seat, back and loose cushion upholstered with light blue wool, edgings of natural leather. Designed 1945. Made in the beginning of 1960s by cabinetmaker Niels Vodder. (2)

Wedding present for present owners parents in 1962. Thence by descent in the family.

The “FJ 45” chair may not be as iconic as the “Chieftain” chair, but it certainly is the most beloved Finn Juhl chair of all. Presented as early as 1945 it came to define, in many ways, how a mid-century armchair should be. The chair would become one of the biggest commercial successes for cabinetmaker Niels Vodder and was produced by him until the 1970s.
