Jens Villadsen Bundgaard (b. 1713, d. 1782)

A Danish longcase clock with musical movement, case of mahogany, gilt brass dial with openwork corner ornaments, engraved centre marked 'FRYSENBORG', silvered chapter ring and plaque to the arch marked 'Jens Willadsen Bundgaard', the movement with eight bells, calendar with aperture to view the day and the month. Mid-18th century. H. 243 cm. W. 45 cm. D. 27 cm.

Jens Villadsen Bundgaard was born in Thy 1713 and died in1782 at Frijsenborg Castle 'tinghuset'. He is well known for a very high quality of clocks and signed the clocks according to their geographical presence. This means there are clocks signed Ørum castle, Kiergaardsholm and Friisenborg castle. Similar clocks can be seen at The Museum of National History, Frederiksborg Castle and at 'Den Gamle By', National Open Air Museum of Urban History and Culture, Aarhus.
