Fritz Syberg (b. Faaborg 1862, d. Kerteminde 1939)
Portrait of Gudrun seated in the shade of a flowering tree. Signed with monogram and dated 1933. Inscribed on the reverse: “Organist Franz Sybergs Frue Gudrun” (Gudrun, wife of the organist Franz Syberg). Oil on canvas. 90.5×68 cm.
The model is the artist's future daughter-in-law, Gudrun Syberg (they were married in 1938). The painting bares resemblance to no. 88 in the illustrated work “Fritz Syberg. Et billedværk med indledning af Herman Madsen”, Copenhagen 1937, which is also painted in 1933. Here, Gudrun wears the same dress, but is looking down as if she is reading.
Retouches. Some minor peelings.
