“Contrast”. A pendant with white- and orange-lacquered metal lamellae. Designed 1958–1962. Manufactured by Louis Poulsen. H. 45 cm. Diam. 45 cm.
Literature: “Light Years Ahead”. 1994. Jørstian, Tina and Poul Munk Nielsen (ed.), pp. 281–282.
“Contrast” is a masterpiece in lighting design. The ten lamellae aren’t really only orange and white-lacqueured, but have blue and chromed surfaces as well. The height-adjustable light bulb inside the frame makes it possible to adjust the temperature of the light: If the bulb is all the way at the top, the majority of the light is reflected on blue surfaces and the light is cooler, and as the bulb is lowered, more light hits the red surfaces, and the light gets warmer.
