1826/85

Lorenz Frølich (b. Copenhagen 1820, d. Hellerup 1908)

Two models for headstones for Hans Vilhelm Kaalund (1818–1885) and Thomas Lange (1829–1887). Both signed with monogram. Pencil, pen and watercolour on paper laid on cardboard and canvas. 182×78 cm and 217×102 cm. (2).

Hans Vilhelm Kaalund (1818–1885), was a Danish author, sculpturer and painter, who was known for his animal fables. The decoration of his headstone consists of several animal motifs. H. V. Kaalund is buried at Solbjerg Park Cemetary in Frederiksberg, where his headstone is placed.

Thomas Lange (1829–1887), was a Danish author, who, amongst other things, wrote about the love for nature and the interplay between man and nature. The decoration of his headstone reflects these themes with a young woman amongst animal and plant motifs, holding a ribbon which describes Lange's relationship with nature. Thomas Lange is buried in Lyngby.
