Jean Tournier: An original b/w press or still photograph of the English actor Edward Fox (b. 1937) in his role as “the Jackal” in the movie “The Day of the Jackal” from 1973. The image shows him adjusting the rifle, which is intended to end the life of President de Gaulle of France. The thriller “The Day of the Jackal” was author Frederick Forsyth's (b. 1938) first novel and it also became his international breakthrough. Later it was followed by “The Odessa File”, “The Dogs of War”, “The Fourth Protocol”, “The Negotiator” and “The Fist of God”, all characterized by their realism and detailed knowledge about the topics addressed. “The Day of the Jackal” won the prestigious American “Edgar Allan Poe Award” for best thriller of the year (1972). The book's title was later to become the nickname of the Venezuelean terrorist Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, known as Carlos the Jackal.
