Ferdinand Richardt (b. Brede 1819, d. Oakland, California 1895)
“Parti fra Møens Klint”. View from the cliff of Møn. Signed and dated F. Richardt 1860. Oil on canvas. 35×45 cm.
In 1855 to 1859 Ferdinand Richardt travelled around the United States, where Niagara Falls became one of his most beloved motifs. In 1859 he returned to Denmark, and in the last week of June 1860 he stayed at Østmøn, where he painted the cliff of Møn several times. Perhaps the Danish landscape, which in drama and greatness, came closest to Niagara Falls.
