A Russian parcel-gilt silver confectionery bowl with swing-handle, rim cast with flowers and foliage. Cyrillic maker's mark MG, presumably Matveo Gretchushnikov, assayer Nikolaj Lukich Dubrovin 1822, Moscow townmark, 84 standard. Weight 222 g. L. 16 cm. H. excl. handle 7 cm.
Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Secretary of Legation in Vienna, Berlin, Moscow and Warzaw in the 1920s, later Counsellor of the Legation in Berlin, Paris, Turkey, Israel and Greece, and finally Consul General in Hamburg from 1954. Hoffmeyer's interest in collecting silver was pervasive and he acquired items in all the cities he lived. Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.
Handle broken at mounting. Wear due to age and use. Base a bit loose at joint.
