Frederik VIII of Denmark was born Prince Frederik of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. At the London Treaty 1852, the great powers approved that Frederik VIII's father, Prince Christian (IX) was appointed to Danish successor after the childless Frederick VII. This agreement was approved in Denmark by the throne law of 1853. This changed Frederik VIII's title to Prince Frederik to Denmark and the change is shown on the present silver cutlery.

Provenance: Descendants of King Frederik VIII of Denmark.
