Exhibited: Charlottenborg 1886 no. 20.C. C. Andersen graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen 1871. In the same period he followed architectural courses at the private drawing school led by G. F. Hetsch and trained to be a restorer.Andersen travelled to Spain, Northern Africa and Italy in the years 1882–1883.He was a popular painter of genre scenes, historical scenes, portraits and also architectural motifs.In this painting he combines the genre scene with an architectural setting and hereby shows his ability to work with both. In the Moorish Palace of Alhambra with the beautifully decorated vaults and the charming view of the Court of the Lions two Moorish servants are prostrating themselves before their master arriving home after travelling.Provenance: The monastery of Børglum, Northern Jutland.
