Hans Jæger (1854–1910), the Norwegian writer, anarchist and bohemian was a front figure in the intelligentsia of Oslo [Kristiania] in the 1880s. “Syk Kjærlihet” is the first part of his famous trilogy, which included “Bekjendelser” and “Fængsel og Fortvivlelse ”(1893–1902). “Syk Kjærlihet” was condemned because of its content which was considered obscene.

Hans Jæger's autobiographical trilogy “Syk Kjærlihet” (Twisted Love) is about his erotic confessions, about twisted love and despair. All the ingredients that were part of the dramatic threesome between Jæger and the Norwegian artist couple Oda and Christian Krohg. When “Syk Kjærlihet” was published in 1893, it was immediately banned and confiscated throughout Scandinavia due to its pornographic content. To avoid censorship, the next two volumes, “Bekjendelser” (Confessions) and “Fængsel og Fortvilelse" (Imprisonment and Despair), were printed in just 250 numbered copies in France. But they too were confiscated.
