Originally introduced in 2002, the Patek Philippe Celestial reference 5102 is an amazing piece of horological innovation, encompassing several sophisticated astronomical indications such as a sky chart, phases and orbit of the moon and the time of meridian passage of Sirius and of the moon. As such, the dial depicts the nocturnal sky of the northern hemisphere with a white oval frame which encompasses the sky visible along the longitude of Genève. To achieve such a feat, the astronomical displays of the reference 5102 rely on a complex 3-stacked system of sapphire crystal discs, each rotating at different speeds corresponding to their distinctive astronomical cycles, in turn providing the dial with a mesmerizing and dimensional depth to this complicated timepiece.
