Grete Balle is a Danish weaver and painter. She belongs to the avant-garde of textile art, experiments with the material's forms of expression and possibilities, and as the widow of the painter Mogens Balle, she is connected to the CoBrA group - in 2021 she is thus represented at the exhibition “CoBrA - the female artists” at Museum Jorn in Silkeborg. Although Balle originally makes her debut as a painter, it is as a self-taught textile artist that she establishs her name. The starting point is a loom, which the couple buys for cheap. She finds her inspiration both in Nordic history, other cultures and the surrounding nature, which is sometimes concretely included in her works. In “Black Mist Figure” she is inspired by African art and the weaving has left the wall to step out into the space like a shaman.
