Purchased by Det Nationalhistoriske Museum at Frederiksborg Slot in May 2014.

Freestanding oak and rootwood parquetry bureau, front with three drawers, side cabinets with painted decoration. Denmark, 20th century. H. 77 cm. L. 160 cm. W. 83 cm.

It was above this exact bureau that German soldiers shot through the windows in the King's study August 29 1943 at the complete German takeover of Denmark. At the time of the fighting the king was on the first floor, but discovered the bullet holes in the windows early in the morning. The king felt lucky for if he had been sitting at the bureau he had been hit.

Provenance: Descendants of King Frederik VIII of Denmark (1843–1912) until today.
