Helle Bovbjerg (b. København 1965)
Pondus. Marked HB. Ceramic and earn. H. 35 cm. W. 27 cm. D. 20 cm.
The ceramic artwork of Helle Bovbjerg has been exhibited in Denmark as well as abroad. She is known for her abstract sculptures inspired by gardens and industrial design. Commenting on the Pondus Project she says: “I have chosen to shape Pondus from scratch so that the figure looks like Pondus but is still completely original. In 1967 Johannes Hansen made a Pondus that could be mass-produced, while I have had the freedom to create one that has a completely unique and personal character. I think the figure of Pondus has a majestic tranquillity. He stands at an immovable bollard and is himself firmly anchored in Danish culture with 50 years to his name. He has also been given a bucket of herrings. I remember that from the Pondus book in my childhood. That is his connection to the humans.”
All the proceeds from the sale of the artwork will go to the Children & Youth Foundation and UNICEF. Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers will waive its usual fee in connection with the sale.
