879/1903

Unknown jeweler, late 19th century

A diamond solitaire ring set with an old-cut diamond weighing app. 2.10 ct., mounted in platinum. Apparently no maker's mark. Colour: Cape (M-N). Clarity: VS. Presumably Russia. 19th century. Size 54.

Mentioned in Peter Gradman's Danish book , “Sceniske Kunstnere jeg kendte og saa” (Artists that I knew and saw), Copenhagen 1943, p. 39: “in his tie a sparkling pin, on his little finger a blazingly brilliant - probably Royal gifts [...].”

Provenance: The Danish opera singer Niels Juel Simonsen (1846–1906). According to the seller's information, the ring was a present from the Russian Tsaritsa to Niels Juel Simonsen, when he performed at the opera in Moscow around 1900. The present Danish owner's father acquired the ring in 1975 by the grandchild of Niels Juel Simonsen's sister-in-law. Accompanied by Danish Gem Lab certificate no. 1057 and jewellery valuation.
