872/1481

A Russian made mechanical mahogany and brass banded desk after the model by Giovanni Socci, elliptical in shape, six 'saber' legs resting on a plinth, counterweights and gear mechanism, when pulling the chair, by this single gesture opens the plateau and releases a small grandstand forming reading secretary topped with leather. Louis XVI style, 19th/20th century. H. 89 cm. W. 108 cm. D. 81 cm.

The model of this table was made by Italian cabinetmaker Giovanni Socci (1774–1842) in 1807, on commission of the Queen of Etruria Maria Louisa di Borbone and today located at Palazzo Pitti, Florence. The table was then repeated in another more simple version a few years later this time to Napoleon's sister Elisa Bonaparte Baciocci in 1814, which is today exhibited at Fontainebleau. This present table is inspired by the one at Fontainebleau.
