Hans Hansen (b. Skelby 1769, d. Copenhagen 1828)

Portrait of Sophie Hauch, daughter of county commisioner and privy councillor Frederik Hauch. She is wearing a blue silk dress with a white shawl and with pink roses in her hand and on her wig. Signed and dated H. Hansen pinx. 1794. Oil on canvas. Oval. 66×54.5 cm.

Following is inscribed on a label on the reverse of the stretcher (in Danish): “Sophie Hauch, daughter of county commisioner in Viborg, Hauch and his wife Nicoline Dorothea Vind. Member of the convent in Vemmetofte”. A pair of portraits of her parents is also up for auction, catalogue number 2034/13.

Provenance: Passed down in the family from the sitters to the present owner.

Condition

A few retouches. Numerous crackles. In need of cleaning. Some minor peelings.
