Halldór Laxness (b. Reykjavik 1902, d. s.p. 1998)

Autograph manuscript (an interview), signed. 13 pages. Pencil, in German language. No date [probably 1960s]. Laxness answers the written questions (typewritten in photo copy from unknown journalist) which deal with the Scandinavian literature and the political climate in Europe.

Halldór Laxness (1902–1998) was a 20th century Icelandic writer. Laxness's main achievement consists of 3 novel cycles written during the 1930s, dealing with the people of Iceland. His later works are frequently historical and influenced by the saga tradition. Laxness received in 1955 the Nobel Prize in Literature; he is the only Icelandic Nobel laureate.

Question: “Gibt es neue Perspektiven in der skandinavischen Gegenwartsliteratur und welcher Art sind sie?”

Laxness' answer: "Bitte diese Frage lieber an die Literaturprofessoren als einer Literatischen Arbeiter richten! Auch befasse ich mich überhaupt nicht mit Skandinavischer Literatur“.
