Robert Jacobsen (b. Copenhagen 1912, d. Egtved 1993)

Relief, 1949–51. Stamped R.J. Black painted iron. 40×57×38 cm.

“Drawing in Iron” is an interesting example of Robert Jacobsen's desire to relate to space in a searching way, here perceived as a movement that is concretized from the wall surface and in relation to the space. The shadow play of the iron reliefs on the wall becomes part of the spatial experience.

Exhibited: “Robert Jacobsen. Tidlige jernskulpturer i dansk privateje”, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen 1992, cat. no. 9, reproduced in the catalogue. Exhibited: “Robert Jacobsen & Paris 1947–1959”, Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark), Copenhagen 15 September 2001–13 January 2002, cat. no. 12, reproduced p. 53 in the book published in connection with the exhibition.
