The present painting is a larger oil painting from 1830, which is in the collection of Statens Museum for Kunst, inventory number KMS200.
It was on August 1st 1829, while Ditlev Blunck was in Rome, that he received a commission to paint a large oil painting depicting ‘Ezekiel’s Vision’ from Count Rantzau at Breitenburg in Holstein. The final painting was exhibited at Charlottenborg in 1832. Crown Prince Christian Frederik wrote to his mother-in-law Louise Augusta that he had seen Blunck's painting: ‘The best paintings by young artists are Blunck's ...’, and the painting was incorporated into the Royal Painting Collection at Christiansborg Palace, now Statens Museum for Kunst (Karin Bechmann Søndergaard, “Blunck. En biografisk og kulturhistorisk fortælling om en anderledes guldaldermaler og hans samtidige”, Nivaagaards Malerisamling, 2017).
