Anna Klindt Sørensen (b. Stengård near Ry 1899, d. Ry 1985)

In 1918 Anna Klindt Sørensen starts studying at Albertine Wesenberg's School for Porcelain Painters in Copenhagen. She is subsequently admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, but choses to leave the school in protest against gender discrimination. Klindt Sørensen is thereafter a very active voice in the debate on women's rights
In 1922, she travels to progressive Paris, where she stays for the next 16 years and receives instruction at various painting schools under artists Fernand Léger, Marcel Gromaire and André Lhote. She returns to Denmark in 1938, but continues to travel in Scandinavia, Europe and Africa.
Anna Klindt Sørensen receives the Eckersberg Medal in 1963, the Thorvaldsen Medal in 1976, as well as a number of grants and became an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1980.
