In 1889, Tuxen travelled to Egypt to find new inspiration. “He journeyed out with his painter’s box, which could contain wooden boards of no more than 15×24 cm. On these, he would paint his impressions, each of which is a testament to his exuberant joy of nature. He did not have to be held accountable to anyone, and with the joy of his heart he painted depictions of the unfamiliar landscapes, views that can be equated with the Impressionists' experiences of nature. The free life and the strong colours of the countryside have greatly inspired him, the method of painting has become bolder.” (Lise Svanholm, "Laurits Tuxen.
