Astronaut Thomas Stafford (b. 1930): An original NASA colour offset photograph of crater landscapes on the backside of the moon photographed from the Apollo 10 spacecraft in May 1969. Photo size 19.5×24.5 cm. Frame size 33×43 cm.
Apollo 10 was the fourth manned mission within the Apollo Program and the second manned spacecraft to be put in orbit around the Moon. On May 22nd 1969 Apollo 10 was merely 112 km from the surface of the Moon, the position from where the present photographs were taken. The command module is now displayed in The Science Museum of London. Thomas Stafford, commander of the voyage, left active service in 1979 with the rank of a three-star general (lieutenant general).
