Frederik Næblerød

The Storyteller and the Chaos Artist

Frederik Næblerød works with everything from drawing, ceramics, painting and photography to collages and installations.  Næblerød paints with everything on everything: Paint, glue or Polyfilla is smeared on mirrors, wooden boards, the back of canvases or house walls. He uses his fingers, brushes, a cap, or whatever else is at hand.  Spontaneity and inspiration are paramount for this contemporary artist. His art is immediate and easy to understand. With his incredible, boundless energy, Næblerød transforms all impressions into expressionistic works of art. And the combination of tempo and talent is his hallmark. A real live wire, Næblerød is always on the go. He paints fish as big as whales, giant condoms and big, oozing nipples, spirits, insects, lizards, felines and monsters with eyes as big as teacups. Næblerød also creates totem-like masks with spiky hair or ceramic pillars, and this is done by slapping lumps of clay together and boxing on it until it hurts.

Frederik Næblerød, His Works and the Celebrity Factor
Frederik Næblerød is a contemporary artist who both poetically and directly reflects the moods and emotions of our day. He has created a universe populated by monsters and strange beings, thoughts verging on the nightmarish depicted with a humorous and almost boundary-breaking idiom. Frederik Næblerød became a household name in Denmark during the first season of the DR programme “Kunstnerkolonien” (The Artists’ Colony) (2020), where he and five other Danish artists – John Kørner, Maria Torp, Kirsten Justesen, Erik A. Frandsen and Cathrine Raben Davidsen – had to create a joint exhibition in Skagen. The following year, he created the poster for the Copenhagen Jazz festival (2021) with a saxophone that transforms into a giant insect. Næblerød has a 240 m2 studio in the Sydhavn area of Copenhagen.
