Timeless Classics
The couple Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen both graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Arts in Copenhagen and worked at their respective studios until 1945. After that, they opened their own studio together, where they designed furniture, jewellery, silver, carpets, wallpaper and a number of houses.
The characteristic traits of the designer couple’s work included their new approach to interior design. They broke with the traditions of the past, where you would buy complete sets of furniture for the dining room, living room and bedroom. Instead, they introduced a new way of decorating your house, where you would combine selected pieces of furniture and thereby create a more personal style.
Among their most celebrated classics are the fireplace chair, which won first prize at the Cabinetmaker’ Guild Exhibition in 1940, and the swivel chair from 1957, which created quite a stir when a copy was acquired by Queen Ingrid of Denmark.
