International auction of weapons

Fine hunting guns, Oriental arms and rare Danish collector’s weapons will be up for sale on 12 December 1 pm at Baltikavej 10 in Copenhagen.

Our latest traditional auction on arms, armour and sporting guns was held as far back as 2008, and it is therefore our great pleasure to welcome you, to this international auction.

We are presenting a total of 226 lots featuring a comprehensive range of the finest hunting guns, oriental arms, rare Danish collector’s items, many of which have never before been seen at the market – and last but not least, a number of tusks, narwhal tusks, etc.

One of the auction highlights is a Belgian double rifle in almost mint condition, made by August Lebeau-Courally. It was produced in 1965 for N.H. Pino, who only used it for a single safari, where he shot a buffalo, an elephant, and a rhinoceros with it.

It could also be worthwhile having a closer look at the auction’s many guns from the world’s most outstanding gunsmiths – including an exquisite collection of exclusive hunting arms from Boss & Co., James Purdey & Sons, and Holland & Holland.

A unique collection of oceanic clubs

One of the auction’s sections is devoted to Count Werner D. Schack’s exceptional collection of clubs from Oceania. They come from the collection of count Werner D. Schack (1922-2004), whose family resided at the Schackenborg Castle in Southern Jutland from the mid 17th century until 1978.

Count Werner D. Schack was very interested in primitive weapons from the South Seas, and the collection was built during the years following world war II until the mid sixties. He was monitoring the international markets closely, and the clubs were primarily acquired at British auctions, and from the antique dealer Frederick north, who ran a business in London specializing in art, ancient-, and ethnographic objects.

Furthermore, the count was a regular customer at the now-defunct ”Galleri etnografica”, run by Mr. Laurits Sunde in the heart of Copenhagen, from where he enriched his collection with new curios on a regular basis.

Over time, Count Werner D. Schack built an in-depth knowledge and an ambitious collectorship. Beyond all doubt, his collection of clubs is one of the most complete and interesting, privately owned, collections ever seen in Denmark. Up to now, the collection has been family-owned.

Enjoy!
