Axel Salto wanted!

Axel Salto is considered a beacon within modern, 20th century craft art, and he won major international recognition following his breakthrough at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1925. Buyers at our most recent international auctions have shown unprecedented interest in Axel Salto’s stoneware vases and figures, resulting in record-high hammer prices:    

• Axel Salto: Large stoneware vase, modelled in budded style. Decorated with black olivine glaze. Signed Salto, 21380. Royal Copenhagen. Hammer price: DKK 1.2 million.   

• Axel Salto: Large fruit-shaped stoneware vase, modelled with small mouth. Signed Salto, 20319. Royal Copenhagen. Made in 1951. Hammer price: DKK 750,000.   

• Axel Salto: Fruit-shaped stoneware vase, modelled with small mouth. Decorated with sung glaze. Signed Salto. Royal Copenhagen. H. 33. Hammer price: DKK 500,000.

• Axel Salto: Stoneware vase, modelled in sprouting style, decorated with sung glaze. Signed Salto. Royal Copenhagen. Unique. H. 40. Hammer price: DKK 380,000.

• Axel Salto: Stoneware “Janus Head”. Decorated with sung glaze. Signed Salto. Royal Copenhagen. Hammer price: DKK 300,000.  

• Axel Salto: Stoneware vase, modelled with branches, birds and foliage. Decorated with sung glaze. Signed Salto, 20250. Royal Copenhagen. Made in 1968. Hammer price: DKK 180,000.
