Record Bids and Wine Tastings

It has been a couple of exciting weeks at Bruun Rasmussen's wine department. We have hosted excellent auctions and two exciting tastings, which you can read more about here.

Record Bids

It is rare that we can report several record bids at the same auction, but Wine Auction 1517 provided just that. A Madeira Terrantez 1790 achieved a bid of 25,000 DKK against an estimate of 10,000-15,000 DKK, and six Haut Brion 1989 achieved a bid of 48,000 DKK against an estimate of 30,000-40,000 DKK. All the bottles distinguished themselves by their incredible beauty, and we wish to congratulate the new owners and hope that the contents taste great as well. If you are of the opinion that large bids suggest the lack of opportunities for a good bargain, rest assured that there are indeed good bargains to be made. The combination of well stored bottles and a significant discount compared to the purchase price in retail, results in buyers, almost without exception, ending up with a fine discount when purchasing wine at our auctions.

Wonderful Wine Evenings in Aarhus and Copenhagen

In April we held tastings of the American top wine Dominus in Aarhus and Copenhagen. In both places the emphasis was on the older vintages, but the 2010 vintage with 100 points from Robert Parker was also present. The kitchens at Restaurant Koch and Restaurant Lumskebugten delivered customized menus that elevated the overall impression and presented the wines from their best side. The mood among the participants was good and the opinions many, as the selection of the evening’s wine bore witness to. 2010, 2002, 2001, 1997, 1994, 1992, 1991, 1987, 1984 and 1983 were all mentioned as candidates. Therefore it is probably most fair just to note that the wines maintained an extremely high level of quality, and they are certainly worth getting to know better. We thank everyone who participated, and we look forward to hosting more exciting tastings in the future.

Increased Advertising

The thirst for wine with a Scandinavian provenance is great, and our targeted advertising offers many new customers. Advertising continues both locally and in Europe and Asia. We have a special focus on Hong Kong, where we have collaborated with the area's leading lifestyle magazine Tatler on many occasions to spread awareness about our auctions. This will take place again in the near future, where we will also send a delegation to Hong Kong. We will visit many current costumers but also potential ones and draw their attention to our auction platform and logistic possibilities. We can conclude that there is great costumer satisfaction among our Chinese customers with the combination of top wines from cool Scandinavian cellars and free shipping.

A Little Information about the Auction

The Champagne section has not been the largest in recent auctions, and the same can be said of the White Burgundy. That will change on Sunday 10 May. This auction offers a huge selection and many top shoots in both categories. Richebourg from DRC and Méo-Camuzet, other exciting DRC wines and a La Romanée from Liger-Belair lead a small but very nice selection of Red Burgundy. The Bordeaux section is large and packed with goodies, and after this comes large and beautiful sections of wines from Rhône, Italy, Spain and the United States, which are all worth a look. The auction is rounded off with exciting, enhanced wine and spirits.

We wish you all good luck with the bidding!
