Finn Juhl (b. Frederiksberg 1912, d. Ordrup 1989)

A pair of chairs with patinated oak frame. Seat and back of laminated teak. Model BO 62. These examples manufactured 1960s by Bovirke. (2)

Provenance: Private Danish collection.

Model presented at the exhibition “Købestævnet” in Fredericia, 1953. The chair was awarded the gold medal at the 10th Triennale, 1954.

Finn Juhl began his collaboration with Bovirke in 1950. “Karmstolen” became the prime example of the fusion between cabinetmaking and manufacturing. Bovirke was so pleased with the result of this chair that they made it their logo at the time. When speaking about this period in Finn Juhl's furniture production, cabinetmaker Niels Vodder said: “Considering that this process of manufacture has actually reduced the price of the finished product, I cherish the hope that Mr Finn Juhl's meritorious/commendable contribution to the art of making furniture will hereby become more widely known and appreciated.” The collaboration with Bovirke did just that and contributed to the increasing awareness of Finn Juhl as an acclaimed furniture designer in Denmark as well as abroad.
