Henning Hansen , attributed (b. Odense 1880, d. Copenhagen 1945)

Large, freestanding Art Deco easy chair with sweeping, black painted frame. Gold painted, carved front legs and “a la grecque” pattern on seat front. Sides, seat and back upholstered with champagne coloured fabric with floral pattern. Presumably made 1928 by cabinetmaker Louis G. Thiersen.

This present chair is most likely the chair mentioned as part of Louis G. Thiersen's stand at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in 1928: “Finally, we have the bedroom interior from Thiersen. Black, mat-finished with antique gilding... And let us not forget a chair, designed by Henning Hansen, Danish Empire, black lacquered, with Greek gold ornamentation!” Literature: “Nyt tidskrift for kunstindustri”, 1–1928, mentioned p. 216.

Literature: Grete Jalk [ed.]: “40 Years of Danish Furniture Design”, vol. 1, the bedroom interior ill. p. 49.
