Axel Salto (b. Copenhagen 1889, d. Frederiksberg 1961)
A large round stoneware vase modeled in budded style. Inside modelled with star-shaped flower stand. Decorated with Solfatara glaze. Signed Salto. Royal Copenhagen. Made 1946. Designed 1944. H. 27 cm. Diam. 34 cm.
Provenance: Danish private collection. Acquired by current owner in the 1960s.

On this impressive and rare budded stoneware vase the Solfatara glaze becomes highly distinct and appears thick and rich in colour. The budded surface contributes to enhance the vivid characteristics of the Solfatara glaze.
