Gerrit Knip (b. Amsterdam, active mid-18th century)

A rare Dutch longcase clock in mahogany case with gilded bronze fittings cast with rocailles and foliage, the clock house adorned with Atlas flanked by angels, the brass dial decorated in colours with allegories representing the four seasons, wisdom and learning, silver-plated chapter ring, Roman and Arabic numerals, the movement with large striking bell and calendar with month, day of the week and moon phase. Signed 'Gerrit Knip, Amsterdam'. c. 1760. H. 279 cm. W. 72 cm. D. 36 cm.

The clockmaker Gerrit Knip, recorded as master clockmaker in Amsterdam in 1761 and is registered as Orlogiemaker op de Warmoesgracht in 1767. The firm continued under the name Gerrit Knip & Zoon.

Condition

Very fine condition Two small and two large weights, pendulum, winding key and key is enclosed. No guarantee of the function of the clock work.
