Finn Juhl (b. Frederiksberg 1912, d. Ordrup 1989)

“FJ 46”. A Brazilian rosewood armchair. Seat and back upholstered with original grey wool. Designed 1946. This example made approx. 1955 by cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, stamped by maker.

Provenance: Private Danish collection. Original owner's family.

Model with brass “shoes” presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark, 1946.

In a review of the Cabinetmakers' Guild exhibition in 1946, the architect Ebbe Kornerup wrote: “I wonder if there is anyone who is better at making chairs than Cabinetmaker Vodder - the craft can probably not be raised to a higher plane than that of Finn Juhl - no room will seem lifeless if his chairs cast their shadows on the walls and floor..”.
