The Imperial Porcelain Factory

“The Babigon Service” - three Russian porcelain plates, decorated in gold and purple on white ground with gold vines, triangle edgings and a roset in center. Marked in underglaze Cyrillic H II for Tsar Nicholas II of Russia (1894–1917), one dated 98, one dated 1898 and one with unvisible date. The Imperial Porcelain Factory. Diam. c. 24 cm. (3).

“The Babigon Service” was produced 1823–1824 for one hundred settings and used at the Grand Peterhof Palace. During 1839–1840 the service was expanded twice the size, and parts of the service was transferred to Tsarskoe Selo. In 1857 the other part was transferred to Belvedere Palace on the Babigon Heights near Peterhof, at which time and for which place it received the name “Babigon”. Additions were created througout the nineteenth century.
