Finn Juhl (b. Frederiksberg 1912, d. Ordrup 1989)

“FJ 45”. A pair of Brazilian rosewood easy chairs. Sides, back and loose seat cushion upholstered with original grey wool, loose seat cushion with original charcoal grey wool, natural leather edgings. Designed 1945. These examples made 1959 by cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, not stamped. (2)

Provenance: Aquired by current owner's father directly from Niels Vodder in 1959. Hence by descent in the family. Copy of the original receipt and original fabric samples from Niels Vodder included.

The “FJ 45” chair may not be as iconic as the “Chieftain” chair, but it certainly is the most beloved Finn Juhl chair of all. Presented as early as 1945 it came to define, in many ways, how a mid-century armchair should be. The chair would become one of the biggest commercial successes for cabinetmaker Niels Vodder and was produced by him until the 1970s.

CITES-certificate valid for transport and re-sale within the European Union included.
