In the summer of 1852 Gurlitt traveled to Dalmatia to seek out new motifs. The trip went over Zadar, Split to the Bay of Kotor and then home again via Dubrovnik. After 6 weeks the journey was interrupted because of an eye infection, but it was after all a very fruitful trip.
