A pair of French silver-plated vegetable dishes, gadrooned cover and knob, two handles with foliage. And a matching silver-plated plate, gadrooned center and lobed rim. Diam. dishes 23 cm. L. (incl. handles) 33 cm. H. 13 cm. Diam. plate 22 cm. All pieces with engraved and mitre crowned monogram for Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich of Russia (1850–1908). Christofle, France 1862–1908. (3).
Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich was son of Tsar Alexander II of Russia and brother of Zar Alexander III of Russia, married to Tsaritsa Maria Feodorovna. The Grand Duke was admiral in the Imperial Russian Navy, therefore the anchor in the monogram.
The present mark of Christofle was in use until 1935 but the service must have been aquired by the grand duke before his death in 1908.
