Ever since Helge Vestergaard Jensen first presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in 1954, the sculptural, Y-shaped leg has reoccured in many of his most popular table designs. The present dining table was thus well received when presented at The Guild Exhibition in 1958. Hans Lassen wrote in his review that the table “was very elegant; there was no visible rail and the top merged with the forked upper part of the legs”. Vestergaard developed his own unique sense of the aesthetics and possibilities of the wooden furniture. He was experimental and not afraid to be unconventional as seen with the 1955 “Racket” furniture, but also widely praised and respected for his less daring but no less artistic and harmonious dining room furniture designs.
