Freestanding teak desk with matching drawer section. Front with five drawers, top with two solid Brazilian rosewood pull-out trays. Handles, plinth and inlays on frame of Brazilian rosewood. Model 2447. Designed 1957. This example made 1957 for cabinetmaker Willy Beck, with maker's paper label. Desk: H. 74 cm. L. 180 cm. W. 88 cm. Drawer section: H. 69,5 cm. D. 86 cm. W. 42,5 cm. (2)
Provenance: The desk is made as a test piece and awarded a silver medal 24/4 1957 with paper label/proof inside drawer.

In 1946, classmates Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen began collaborating with cabinetmaker Willy Beck. It became a 25-year long and close collaboration where they made furniture with great skill in the workshop in Classensgade, Copenhagen. This rare desk was completed in 1957, and the model was exhibited at The Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition at The Danish Museum of Decorative Art & Design the same year. It shows the essence of the style of the two architects, and of Danish design in general, as it continues the legacy of Kaare Klint and unites form and function without compromising the quality of design and craftsmanship.
