Provenance: The family of Jacob Kjær

Model presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark, 1935. Literature: Grete Jalk [ed.]: “40 Years of Danish Furniture Design”, vol. 1, p. 217. Flemming Lassen worked together with various cabinetmakers in the middle of the 1930s. Here he presented his modern, organic and overstuffed furniture at the annual Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibitions. Two cabinetmakers Jacob Kjær and A.J. Iversen, both counted as first among equals and generally otherwise heavily influenced by the 18th century English furniture tradition, would be Lassen’s partners for his most iconic pieces. This extremely rare sofa is probably the best sofa he designed and yet has remained more or less unknown. As with his “Tired Man Chair” the sofa takes a basic form and stretches it into something sculptural. To our knowledge only two known examples exist.
