The Jaguar SS100 was the model that ushered Jaguar into the distinguished ranks of sports-car manufacturers. It was also the first automobile by the company’s founder, William Lyons, to bear the name “Jaguar,” although the marque only officially replaced SS Cars Ltd. as the company’s name after the Second World War. The designation “100” referred to the car’s aspirational top speed of 100 miles per hour.
It was precisely this synthesis of performance and stylistic refinement that made the Jaguar SS100 a coveted automobile in its era. When it triumphed in the Alpine Trial ahead of Bugatti in 1936, its reputation as a formidable competition car was firmly established. In the following years, the Jaguar SS100 continued to achieve success in competition, and today it stands as an icon among early British sports cars.
Chassis number 49029 was completed on 5 January 1938 and delivered to a Mr. Brown with the intention of participating in motor racing. In 1952 the car was exported to Houston, fully restored. Remarkably, it has retained its original engine and gearbox throughout the decades and presents today in an exceptionally well-preserved and authentic condition.
The current owner discovered the car among many remarkable automobiles in the Strøjer Collection on the island of Funen and acquired it in 2003. Since then, it has occasionally graced the roads of Funen when weather conditions permitted. The car is unfamiliar with the phenomenon of rain and has been meticulously maintained by a local specialist throughout the years.
Consequently, this red lightning from Funen still stands proud and stately, awaiting its next passionate custodian.

The Live Auction of Classic Cars takes place on 15 April at 7 pm at Haaning Collection, Smørmosevej 16, 2880 Bagsværd.
The preview will be held at the same address on 11–13 April from 10 am-4 pm.
The entrance is free for both the preview and Live Auction.
Purchased cars must be collected no later than 20 April 3 pm at Haaning Collection.
