P. S. Krøyer was admitted to Middelfart sygehus (Middelfart hospital) - an asylum - in the beginning of 1907. In his euphoric periods Krøyer portraied some of the staff and the other patients. He called this collection of portraits for “Typer fra et kurhus” (Types from an asylum) and his plan was to publish them as colour prints.
